-Gumball's POV-
I can't believe it. Out of all the people in the world that have to be forced to live a life of total seclusion, why did it have to be me? I just feel so neglected; almost as if I'll never find somebody in this world that I can call mine.
I don't know why I started feeling this way, but it felt as if I had this massive feeling of loneliness lying inside of me, and it just chose today of all days to reveal itself.
Everywhere I went, as I continued to stroll around the seemingly endless perimeter of this massive school, I couldn't think about anything else but that inner loneliness and overall sadness. It kept eating away at my insides, almost leading me to the point of tears.
All I want is for somebody to love me. Is that too much to ask? Well, I certainly don't think so. Although I well and truly only have eyes for Penny, I had to admit that there are one or two other girls that I can see myself being with in the future.
In fact, despite the possibility of me sounding desperate, I would want to see myself with practically every girl in my class. I don't care who it is; it could be Rachel, Carmen, Molly, or even Tina or Jamie. All I want is a chance to see what my future might be like if I had a woman to call my own.
All of a sudden, as if by some unexplainable divine intervention, I got my wish; but not in the way I exactly expected. As I started to walk underneath one of the massive oak trees surrounding the back of the school, a mysterious, unrecognizable figure appeared right in front of my face; suspending himself upside down from one of the lower branches.
"Hi their!" The stranger said in an almost surprisingly enthusiastic voice.
When I saw the strangers face just pop out right in front of me, I nearly had a heart attack. I screamed at the top of my lungs, and shortly fell backwards onto the unforgiving grass beneath me.
As I was lying there on the ground, the stranger finally lowered himself from his perch on the tree and landed feet first on the ground. He slowly walked over towards where I was laying down, and as he started to walk I was suddenly overcome with a crippling sense of fear. I didn't know what he wanted with me, but I hoped that he would just finish whatever it was he was going to do with me and be on his way.
I closed my eyes for a while, hoping to make the time pass by faster as I believed that I had to endure some form of torture; but as I opened my eyes, I suddenly saw that the stranger was kneeling right beside me, and holding out his hand to help me off the ground.
"Are you alright?" He asked in a worried voice. As he sat there with his hand stretched out, I reluctantly stretched out mine towards him. He grabbed my hand, and carefully helped me off of the ground and back onto my feet.
"T-thanks" I said in a low, nervous tone; refusing to make eye contact with him for an inexplicable reason.
He noticed my hesitation and slightly laughed to himself; saying, "You don't have to be afraid of me."
It was at this point that I suddenly decided to face him; and as I did, I suddenly found myself asking him "Who…who are you?"
He gave me a subtle smile across his face and replied, "Nobody important. Just call me…your guardian angel."
At first I was confused at what he just told me, but all of a sudden he continued to say, "I've heard of your sudden-stricken grievance, and I have come to show you that there is hope."
"Really?" I asked in both a reluctant and surprised tone. "How can you do that?"
It was at this point that the stranger leaned in towards me and said in a low voice, "Alright; I'm going to be telling you something that I probably shouldn't be telling you in the first place. Do you think you can keep a secret?"
I nodded my head out of curiosity, and he continued "I can see into your future."
At this point, I suddenly came close to laughing uncontrollably. Was he actually serious? There was no way something like that could be true.
Sensing my obvious doubts, he looked at me and asked, "So you think I'm kidding you, do you?"
"Well, I kind of do." I replied, holding back small traces of laughter.
"Well it's true." He replied in a firm voice. "I see everything. I saw how you were wearing that cheerleader outfit of yours and singing the "Daisy the Donkey" theme song in the backyard of your house yesterday…"
When I heard that, I started to freak out on the inside. 'How could he possibly find out about that?' I asked myself in disbelief.
"…I also know where you've been hiding your shrine dedicated to Penny that you built two years ago…"
At that point, my fears started to escalate even higher than earlier. I couldn't tell if he was being truthful, or if he was just the world's freakiest stalker. Either way, he was starting to make me become a little uneasy to myself.
"…and I know what grade you're going to get on that quiz you have tomorrow; which you're undoubtedly going to procrastinate on studying for tonight…"
Finally, I decided to stop his rambling before it escalated into any more personal details involving me that I didn't want anybody else to hear.
"Okay! I believe you!" I said in a frantic voice, and he suddenly stopped what he was saying and started to pay attention to me.
"Really?" he asked in a curious manner; almost as if he was trying to detect some small sliver of doubt inside of me.
"Yeah, really." I replied in a worried and assured tone. "But, how do you know that there is hope for me in the future?"
"Well, I can show you your future if you'd like." He replied, suddenly starting to catch my attention.
"How are you going to do that, though?" I asked him, trying to get a better understanding behind his true intentions.
"Do you have a blank piece of paper?" he asked me. Naturally surprised and slightly taken aback, I searched inside of my backpack until I finally came across a blank sheet of paper.
Once I handed the paper to him, he folded the paper into fairly-sized squares. After he was done folding, he began to unfold the paper until it was back into its original shape.
He then handed the paper to me and asked, "These are ALL the girls in your class, right?"
As I looked at the paper in front of me, I couldn't believe my eyes. What had once been a blank sheet of printer paper had suddenly been turned into a list of all of the girls in my class. Every girl was on the list too: Penny, Carrie, Carmen, Molly, Rachel, Masami, Tina, Jamie, and even Teri.
"How…how did you do that?" I asked in complete shock.
"That's not important at the moment." He replied to me. "After all; you wanted to see what your future would be like if you were paired up with one of the girls in your class, right? Well, I'm simply helping you see into your own 'customized' future. You can see your future with any one of the girls on this list, and make your choice from there. If you're happy with the future you chose, then you can live out that entire future from beginning to end. If not, you can always choose somebody else from the list.
"So, Gumball, you have a list of all the girls in your class and an endless possibility of futures at your disposal. Where do you want to start?"
